Born
May 25, 1945 in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Moved to Spalding
County in 1963 from Newton County, Georgia. Married to Patricia
(Pat) Smith McDaniel. They have two daughters and sons-in-law:
Lisa & Scott Dobbs, Laura & Ryan Edge. They have three
grandchildren: Anna and Taylor Dobbs and Harrison Edge. Member
and Bible Study Leader at Second Baptist Church, Griffin.
Graduated from Newton County High School in Covington, United
States Army Officer Candidate School in Aberdeen, Md. and Gordon
Military College in Barnesville.
Commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Army in August, 1969.
Served as Platoon Leader and Executive Officer in the 608th
Ordinance Company, Assistant Adjutant for the 67th Maintenance
Battalion and Executive Officer of the 524th Personnel Services
Company, all at Fort Benning, Georgia.
Began his career at Delta Air Lines in August, 1969. Worked in
various levels of responsibility for 25 years in Materiel
Services and for 7 years in Technical Publications. Retired from
Delta, as Supervisor in Technical Publications, on December 31,
2001.
Served on the Spalding County Board of Zoning Appeals for 5
years with 2 years as crossover member to the Planning
Commission.
Elected County Commissioner in April 1999, to fill the unexpired
term of Bob Smith (father-in-law), representing the 3rd
District. Re-elected for a four year term for 2001-2004. Served
as Chairman of the Board of Commissioners in 2002. |
