SPALDING COUNTY OFFICE OF HOMELAND SECURITY: SPALDING COUNTY ACHIEVES STORM READY RE-RECOGNITION

June 18th, 2015

Kenny West, EMA Director for Spalding County, announced that Spalding County has been recognized as a Storm Ready jurisdiction for a second time by the National Weather Service. Spalding County first received this recognition in 2012 and each county designated as Storm Ready has to be re-evaluated every 3 years in order to keep the recognition. This designation will be valid through 2018.

The Storm Ready recognition is based on many different factors that include community preparedness, monitoring equipment and training to name a few. Keith Stellman, Meteorologist in Charge at the Peachtree City National Weather Service office stated, “on behalf of the Georgia Storm Ready Advisory Board, I would like to congratulate all of you on your jurisdiction’s Storm Ready re-recognition. It is clearly the result of your vision, leadership, hard work, and commitment to the citizens of Spalding County.”

In Chief West’s application letter to the National Weather Service, he stated, “the Spalding County Office of Homeland Security has worked to meet and exceed the criteria and guidelines set by the National Weather Service for recognition as a Storm Ready community. This is accomplished through notification aspects, community awareness/preparedness and the promotion of readiness throughout the community.”
