SPALDING COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCES PROMOTION OF FIREFIGHTERS JOHNSON AND BATTS TO LIEUTENANT

Spalding County Fire Chief Kenny West announced today the promotion of Firefighters Zavario Johnson and Martin Batts to Lieutenant. The Lieutenant testing process was followed by a panel style interview that resulted in Johnson and Batts being named to the positions.

Lieutenant Johnson began his career with the Spalding County Fire Department in 2009 as a Firefighter. Since that time, Johnson has worked to obtain advanced certifications in Hazardous Materials and is a Community Emergency Materials Response Team (CERT) Instructor. Johnson is also an Advanced EMT. Lieutenant Johnson was born and raised in Spalding County.

Lieutenant Batts began his career with the Spalding County Fire Department in 2006 as a Firefighter. Since that time, Batts has worked to obtain advanced certifications in Hazardous Materials, Rescue Specialist, Trench Rescue, Confined Space and Extrication. Batts is also medically certified as a First Responder. Lieutenant Batts was born and raised in Spalding County.

Spalding County Fire Chief Kenny West acknowledged, “Johnson and Batts have worked hard to achieve this recognition and they both will be great assets to the department in their new roles. Johnson and Batts are great examples of the future of the Spalding County Fire Department”.
