SPALDING COUNTY OFFICE OF HOMELAND SECURITY: SPALDING COUNTY ACHIEVES STORM READY RE-RECOGNITION

June 5th, 2018

Glenn Polk, EMA Director for Spalding County, announced that Spalding County has been recognized as a Storm Ready jurisdiction for a third time by the National Weather Service. Spalding County first received this recognition in 2012 and each county designated as Storm Ready has to be re-evaluated every 3 years in order to keep the recognition. This designation will be valid through June 26, 2021.

The Storm Ready recognition is based on many different factors that include community preparedness, monitoring equipment and training to name a few. David J. Nadler, Warning Coordinator Meteorologist at the Peachtree City National Weather Service office stated, “on behalf of the Georgia Storm Ready Advisory Board, I would like to congratulate all of you on your jurisdiction’s Storm Ready rerecognition. It is clearly the result of your vision, leadership, hard work, and commitment to the citizens of Spalding County.”

In Deputy Chief Polk’s application letter to the National Weather Service, he stated, “the Spalding County Office of Homeland Security has worked to meet and exceed the criteria and guidelines set by the National Weather Service for recognition as a Storm Ready community. This is accomplished through notification criteria, community awareness/preparedness and the promotion of readiness throughout the community.”
