Spalding County is located in the west-central part of Georgia and encompasses 201 square miles. Bordered by Clayton, Coweta, Fayette, Henry, Butts, Lamar, Pike, and Meriwether counties, Spalding County lies 40 miles south of downtown Atlanta and 55 miles northwest of Macon. Spalding County is a part of the Atlanta Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA).

Spalding County Manager

About Steve Ledbetter, PhD
Professional Role:
Dr. Steve Ledbetter is the County Manager for Spalding County, Georgia. In this capacity, he oversees the professional management of all programs and activities under the Board of County Commissioners. His responsibilities include managing departments such as Economic & Community Development Services, Finance, Fire and Emergency Services, Public Works, Human Resources, and Information Services.
Career Background: Dr. Ledbetter's career began as an air traffic controller in the U.S. Army. He later transitioned to law enforcement, serving as a police officer in metro Atlanta and rising to a command staff position. His diverse background has equipped him with a unique skill set that he applies to his current role in county management.
Management Consulting: In addition to his role in local government, Dr. Ledbetter has extensive experience as a management consultant with Korban Partners, LLC, where he served as the Chief Operations Officer. He provided strategic guidance and operational support to major companies such as ConocoPhillips, BHP, Chevron, Bell Helicopter, and Boeing. His consulting work focused on aerospace defense, aviation, and oil & gas industries.
Community Involvement: Dr. Ledbetter is actively involved in various community and professional organizations, including Rotary, the Georgia City-County Management Association (GCCMA), and the Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG). He serves as a liaison between the Board of County Commissioners and several working committees, ensuring that all county initiatives and policies are effectively implemented.
Leadership and Achievements: Dr. Ledbetter's leadership is instrumental in managing an organization of over 600 employees with an annual budget of $123 million. His efforts contribute to fostering a thriving community in Spalding County.

Deputy County Manager of Administration

Mrs. Erica Dye began her career with Spalding County as Director of Administration and Finance in early 2023. In August 2024, Mrs. Dye was named Deputy County Manager for Administration and brings a wealth of experience from her prior role with the Georgia Lottery Commission to her position in Spalding County.  

The duties of the Deputy County Managers include assisting in developing and managing operating and capital budgets, proposing policy recommendations to the County Board, suggesting new management approaches and strategies, developing more effective ways of delivering county services, and contributing to the economic development process and the County Manager’s Office support staff.

Citizen Engagement Specialist

The Spalding County Citizen Engagement office is dedicated to fostering community involvement and organizing events that bring residents together with county officials. This office plays a crucial role in serving on various Griffin-Spalding Boards and actively participating in civic organizations. It promotes Spalding County’s initiatives, engages with the faith-based organizations, and coordinates events with the City of Griffin.  The Citizen Engagement office collaborates and promotes Spalding County internal partners including, but not limited, to Spalding County CI, the Spalding County Fire Department, Administrative Services, Parks and Public Works, the Sheriff’s Department, Leisure Services, Board of Commissioners, and other Spalding County entities. The office is deeply involved in community endeavors, supporting local initiatives and activities that enhance the quality of life for residents. Through these efforts, the Citizen Engagement office enhances community involvement, supports local initiatives, facilitates communication, and strengthens partnerships. By encouraging residents to participate in local events and initiatives, the office fosters a sense of belonging and community spirit, helping to create a vibrant, connected, and engaged community in Spalding County.

Deputy County Clerk

Christopher Houghton, the Deputy County Clerk in Spalding County, Georgia, plays a crucial role in supporting the County Clerk by performing a variety of administrative and clerical duties. This position involves maintaining and organizing official county records, including minutes of meetings, ordinances, resolutions, and other important documents. The Deputy County Clerk also provides information to the public, responding to inquiries regarding county records and procedures. Additionally, they assist in the preparation and coordination of county meetings, such as the Board of Commissioners meetings, ensuring that all necessary documents are properly filed and stored. By performing these tasks, the Deputy County Clerk helps ensure the smooth operation of county government and the accessibility of important information to the public.
